Vredenheim Wine Estate

Vredenheim Wine Estate is located on the R310 / Baden Powell outside Stellenbosch. The owners originally hail from Dundee in Kwazulu Natal where they were game farmers. Having a great love for big cats they decided to open the Big Cats Park at Vredenheim to educate the public about the habits of these amazing creatures. The park opened in October 2011 and is fully approved by Cape Nature. The park is currently home to brown lions, 2 adult white lions,  a caracal, a cheetah, a leopard and 2 Bengal tigers. These animals are purchased from approved breeding programmes, and Vredenheim is not allowed to breed them further. Thus the park becomes a sanctuary for these beautiful creatures, where the public can enjoy them and learn more about them. They are open year round except on Christmas Day and Good Friday.

Big Cat Park

There are guided tours daily on the hour from 9am – 4pm with the 11am and 3pm tours coinciding with a feeding. Visitors to the Big Cats Park are able to view the cats up close, but still from the safety of viewing decks and behind the enclosure fences. Vredenheim also offers a unique experience not to be found anywhere else along the Stellenbosch wine route in a package that allows one to visit the Cat Park and have a wine tasting.

Wine Tasting

The Tasting Room is the perfect place to enjoy your first introduction to Vredenheim’s range of wines. There is seating at the counter or at large tables, which are able to accommodate groups of any size. Adjacent to the Tasting Room is the private cellar, which provides  for intimate tutored tastings and is very popular with small groups and wine clubs.

Experience our superb range of wines with wine tastings in our tasting room, or paired with the excellent dishes at our popular restaurants on the estate: Hudson’s Restaurant and Barrique Restaurant.

Our unique Big Cats Park is home to lion, tiger, leopard, cheetah and caracal.

There’s a variety of wildlife and game on the farm, as well as our award winning Angus Cattle Stud. We offer a choice of venues for an unforgettable wedding or the perfect function, and our picture-perfect gardens are especially inviting for picnics or leisurely lunches.
